Blackjack, also known as vingt-et-un, twenty-one 21 and pontoon, is one of the most popular casino card games in the world. Much of its popularity is due to the mix of chance with elements of skill and decision making, and the publicity that surrounds the practice of card counting, in which players can turn the odds of the game in their favor by making betting and strategy decisions based on the cards that have been dealt. Casinos strongly frown upon card counting, but it is a difficult skill to master and few players are successful at it.

One of the most popular myths attached to this game is that it has been accused as game of luck rather than skill. This myth is as old as the game. This is a false propaganda unleashed by some skeptics of the game. This is one among the few games where players with their skill establish superiority in the house over a period of time.

Blackjack played on land is better than the online version is another popular myth that is going around for some period of time. Though the supporters of this view have their own explanations, it is only a myth and the opposite is true. Online casinos offer practice games absolutely free of cost and such facilities are not available in land based casinos. There will not be any feeling of intimidation and absolutely no distraction as in the noisy brick and mortar casinos. You have the facility to find the casino of your choice after making a search. This is not possible in land based casinos unless you are in a gambling city like Las Vegas. If you want to get the feeling of being social, you will have the option to join multi-player blackjack.

There is also a notion that or we can term it as a bizarre myth that only people with large bankroll have the chances of winning blackjack games. This may be something that is propagated by casinos themselves for getting heavy business. Play at the tables that suit the type of bankroll you have. You can play in tables with lower limit first and can go to higher end tables as you grow in skill and bankroll.

Blackjack Table
At a casino blackjack table, the dealer faces five to seven playing positions from behind a semicircular table. Between one and eight French decks of cards are shuffled together. At the beginning of each round, up to three players place their bets in the "betting box" at each position in play.

Betting

The player whose bet is at the front of the betting box is deemed to have control over the position, and the dealer will consult the controlling player for playing decisions regarding the hand; the other players of that box are said to "play behind". Any player is usually allowed to control or bet in as many boxes as desired at a single table, but it is prohibited for an individual to play on more than one table at a time or to place multiple bets in a single box.

Blackjack Table

Blackjack is dealt on a special table that is shaped as a semi-circle. There is a separate circle or square for each player. When you sit down you must buy chips from the dealer or bring them from another table. See How to Buy Casino chips. The player puts his bet in the betting circle if front of his space. Only chips put in the betting circle count as your bet. After all bets are made the play begins.
